Movement of the rivers of the Russian plain #004
The valley of the Absheron Volga was much wider than the valley of the modern river, its bed ran several meters higher than the modern one. At the end of the Pliocene, the leveling of the Relief of the Russian Plain was completed. The depth of the riverbed, the width of the river valleys, and the thickness of the alluvium that filled them allow us to judge the changes in the tectonic regime of the platform.
Only the most deepened channels are preserved in the thickness of the earth's crust. The long-term development of the rivers ended with a sharp deepening in the Middle Pliocene. Thus ended the first stage of their development. The sinking of the platform in the late Pliocene led to the burial of river valleys. The development of the river network from the moment of its laying or the resumption of the riverbed process in a buried or semi—buried valley, to the new cessation of riverbed activity is an erosion cycle. Each cycle begins with an enhanced cutting of the river and ends with the burial of its valley. During the first stage of the cycle, the deepening of the rusl occurs, most of the alluvium is carried out to the lower reaches of the river and the receiving basin; the remaining low-power alluvium forms nested low terraces. The deepening of the rusl takes place in the conditions of the country's uplift. During immersion, during the second stage of the cycle, an overlaid layer of alluvium accumulates in the valley, blocking the floodplain and terraces, and the river flow rate decreases. The river stream wanders through the created alluvial plain. At the end of the cycle, deep erosion decreases so much that the river turns into a chain of lakes, in some cases, marine transgression into the valley leads to a break in the erosion cycle. This is exactly what happened in the Late Pliocene. Erosion cycles coincide with tectonic ones. The Pliocene cycle ended with the formation of vast alluvial and marine plains that completely buried deep valleys. The general uplift of the Russian Platform at the boundary of the Quaternary period determined the beginning of a new erosion cycle. There was a new deepening of the rusl into Pliocene and older rocks. Deep Early Quaternary channels, as well as Pliocene ones, are completely buried under a thick layer of Medium Quaternary sediments accumulated under the conditions of platform immersion. The quaternary erosion cycle has been completed. The new cycle caused by the uplift of the platform, which began in the late Pleistocene, is reflected in the first stage by the deepening of the rusl and the formation of nested terraces of modern river valleys. Due to the ongoing deepening of the rusl, this cycle can be called modern. A casa de apostas 1xBet atrai novos jogadores com bônus de 100% no primeiro depósito para registro até R$1200.
